Soft-Baked Apple Cinnamon Rolls

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup peeled and chopped apples
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup icing sugar for glaze

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm, then add to flour mixture.
  3. Add the egg and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth, then let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Roll out dough and spread with cinnamon, sugar, and apple mixture.
  6. Roll into a log and cut into rolls.
  7. Place rolls in a baking dish, let rise again for 30 minutes, then bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Drizzle with icing sugar glaze before serving.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, use brown butter in the dough.
  • Try adding raisins or nuts for extra texture.
