- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten
- coarse salt for sprinkling
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, salt, and sugar. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Divide the dough into pieces and shape into pretzels.
- In a pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
- Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
