Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture, and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered with a damp cloth, for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Boil a large pot of water and add the baking soda.
  6. Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape them into bagels.
