- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sugar (for topping)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour and salt, mixing until combined. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Divide the dough into 12 pieces and roll each into a long rope. Shape into pretzels.
- Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then place on the baking sheet.
- Brush with melted butter and mix sugar with cinnamon for sprinkling on top.
- Bake for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
